One of my giant platform boots broke apart after probably about two years of me wearing them to work every day. For them being boots more intended to be worn for stompy dancing at a goth club, they put up with that amazingly well.
Duck tape held them through their last day.
My boss saw this and said it actually looked pretty neat – he envisioned a pair where one boot is black and one silver being pretty awesome. I agree.

This *was* a headlight connector and bulb, it all just disintegrated into weird gray ash and burned a few inches back down the wire. Oh gee where have I seen this before?

After months of neglect, I redyed my hair. Interestingly it seems like the blacklight at my workbench has become…. a dim purple light. The UV emission appears to be mostly gone. I’m not surprised as this has always been a common failure mode of uv led emitters. A lot of plastics that are common in other LED carriers will degrade from the UV and begin to absorb it, letting through only the visible blue/violet color, if much at all. The bulb has been on 24/7 pretty much ever since I started doing rainbow hair so it’s given a good service life. It occurs to me that one of my coworkers who just came back to the office today has never seen me with rainbow hair before, and he didn’t say anything about it…… but he suddenly decided he’s now tired of only wearing black clothing! Well then… I’m glad to be bringing more color to the world. :3
There are visible black spots on top of the LED emitters in the “filament” now. I don’t remember if they’re that way on these bulbs new but I’ll compare them when I get a new one. That is assuming I don’t just get some UV LED tape for my workspace where I sit and yell about things like these cursed faders in a JLCooper audio controller.

A lot of equipment with motorized faders has pretty similar faders, but these are all weird and look almost like a totally custom bizarro construction. They’re not Alps, Penny & Giles, or Midas, they’re just weird and we kill them every year and change. Uh, okay.
Let’s just say the only way out of this one is an emergency capital expenditure request that’s being made as I speak. The servo balanced LTC output is somehow half burned up on the working one of the two and this can’t be fixed without taking the unit out which means NOOOOOO TIMECODE *whistle boing*

Yeah that’s apparently not a thing at all here. I’m so glad. I think at worst maybe one of my coworkers was very slightly confused because he was used to referring to me by male pronouns and I guess kinda questioned that for a moment but that really doesn’t bother me at all. I have thought maybe I should introduce myself using they/them to avoid confusion but… whatever works.
Oh and yes this was me being rather lazy, really I just wanted to wear my favorite dress at work somehow and then realized I had a set of cat ears that matched it! It worked out so well and everyone was trying to figure out what anime I was from. Well….. I’ve often thought a somewhat ridiculous anime about broadcast engineering should exist— think maybe what you’d get if you crossed Azumanga Daioh with a TV and radio station. Meow.

I wish to point out something ridiculous here. In the photo I took in the dark, a lot of that light reflecting off my dress is a whole stack of windows open on my desktop PC as I give our ChyronHego graphics systems their weekly, uh, wash, rinse, and tri-color foaming wax or whatever. These things are high maintenance and just as I was about to leave for the afternoon to go take a cat nap, the Camio Luci component of…. whatever….. Blew The F Up.
Guess what turned out to secretly actually just be Software As A [dis]Service with a weird local hardware-ish interface to the on site newsroom automation all along?

Also I discovered this is the most useless hair bleach, at least on me – it doesn’t even try to lift any part of my hair that wasn’t already bleached with the nice Wella or Quick Blue stuff, or is already naturally graying. (How much gray do I have now? I hate to say I don’t even know.)

So I figured it was a good time to reboot the ELC automation server for Good Day Sacramento and one of my coworkers has wanted to braid my hair ever since I dyed it all rainbow. Her daughters aged out of letting her braid their hair and she missed doing it… so she braided my mane while ELC juddered back to life. The result is amazing.
The shirt I’m wearing is one I drew on with glow in the dark fabric paint. I wasn’t sure at first if I liked how it came out until I saw how it looks actually worn. It just didn’t look as nice lying flat. I’m gonna have to put a blacklight up at the station somewhere for…. reasons.

The thing around my hair is not a ferrite core. It’s more like a slap bracelet and it’s awesome. It keeps the tail from just lying on the back of my neck.
The big hoop is an old TV/monitor degaussing coil and the box is what it came in. Don’t confuse this Jif with that other Jif. I don’t think either rhymes with Gif. Also, one of my coworkers gave me that beautiful blue hair dye, it’s from the Manic Panic line and I love it.

Thankfully I don’t have to really do any major overhaul work on these — we have the tooling in house to do it, including PCs loaded with custom software to perform certain adjustments (yikes!) and these decks don’t even speak plain English to you like my Sony DVCAM stuff does… you have to have The Fine Manual in front of you because everything is just by numbers with no text labels in any of the menus!
