So if you need a light bulb from NAPA Auto Parts, ask them for it at the counter. They’ll come out with a bulb in a generic little box that’s a LOT less expensive than the ones on the pegs out front… And in the case of the weird high color temperature ones like Sylvania Silverstar or the blue coated bulbs, it’ll last longer!
The lamp life isn’t always specified clearly on the package but if you see it there, compare it. The obnoxious blue bulbs usually have half or less of the specified life of the basic ones. On my Subaru where it takes about 30 seconds to change the bulb with no tools needed, this isn’t a huge issue, but if you have one of those hellbeast vehicles where you have to denude it of its whole front bumper to change the bulb……………

buuuuut on a serious note here’s a conspiracy theory I had earlier today while staring at cows in a pasture
we WILL have a social credit system in the US like the horrific one in use in China that virtually imprisons those who have a low score —
however, it will come to be without any government approval, oversight, or involvement (at least initially).
It’ll be borne out of the ideas of some douchebag tech bros down in San Francisco who push the limits of our privacy by aggregating and mining a shitload of commercially available analytics databases and linking them back to our identities, facial recognition data, vehicle registrations, etc. They’ll come up with this great hot new product they sell to companies as a “risk analysis” to determine how good an employee or customer a particular person is and allow them to block less desirable persons from employment or from their services.
Eventually some unscrupulous lazy ass government contractor will buy one of these products and sell it to the US government for some goofball purpose like forming no-fly lists or supposed fraud detection…. and there you go, that’s where the government involvement will eventually come into play.
come one, come all, witness the beautiful dumpster fire that is late stage CRAPitalism!

I guess I’m still on some curious lists from my job searches back in South Florida, because I was just delivered this beautiful gem along with a voicemail message from someone with SEVERE background noise (sounded like a cross between a call center and a school cafeteria!) and a very heavy Indian accent. I could make out about three words of it. Sadly this will probably be the start of a gradually increasing stream of electronic harassment from them until they exhaust lines of communication I haven’t blocked yet. 😀

I’m not including the sender’s contact info because my experience has been that these are nothing but fake offers intended to get people to submit resumes that can be mined, sold, and traded between recruiters like some kind of horrible benefit-free commodity. There are VERY FEW actual tech jobs in South Florida and recruitment is pretty much exclusively handled through H-1B visa program openings, personal friendships and professional connections*.
